Insulation R-Value Calculator
Calculate total R-value from layered insulation materials.
Estimate only — not a substitute for a licensed tradesperson, a certified engineer, or sign-off from your local building surveyor. Verify against current standards and site conditions before ordering materials or starting work.

Sums declared layer R-values only - not independently verified against the current energy-efficiency climate-zone tables (unlike the stair/balustrade calculators in this build, this figure was not checked directly against ncc.abcb.gov.au). Confirm the required minimum for your climate zone and the NCC edition currently adopted in your state before installation.
What this is based on
The arithmetic here - adding the R-values of layers in series - is building physics, not a code rule, so there is no clause to cite for the calculation itself. The REQUIRED total R-value for a roof, wall or floor is set by the NCC's energy efficiency provisions and varies by CLIMATE ZONE, so a single number cannot be built into this calculator. NOT YET CITED TO A CLAUSE: the relevant NCC part could not be verified on 2026-08-31 (ncc.abcb.gov.au blocks that path via robots.txt), and no clause number will be published here until someone opens it directly. Check your climate zone's required R-value in the NCC or with your certifier.
We cite the clause and link to the publisher so you can read the source yourself. We do not reproduce the text or tables of the NCC or of any Australian Standard.
